Le Shrinkage is Real

Hey everyone! Here posting a hair update. I recently took down my lovely box braids. I loved them dearly but they were giving me hell because my natural hair was getting a little too long and started just hanging from my scalp. Also, I was dying to wash my hair! I hadn't washed in about a month and a half coming from a girl who washes her hair weekly. So after taking down my hair I noticed my hair grew a bit & I was pretty excited. As some of you may know, I did a second Big Chop in October (prior to my September cut) to chop off the rest of my dead ends. My hair's current length is about the same length it was back when I first BC'd. I'd like to say my hair grew a 1/2 inch in a month's period. So let's this growth rate continues for the rest of the year in hopes that I grow 6 inches of naturally kinky/curly hair!
Now, after I did a thorough washing of my hair with my WEN hair products, I did a hot oil treatment with coconut oil and that really made my hair super soft and shiny. However, we I took down the shower cap I noticed my hair had shrunken at least 2 inches! Ladies and gentlemen, THE SHRINKAGE IS TOO REAL. I was so excited to see that my hair had grown that I was a little disappointed to see how much it shriveled once water hit the surface. I swear my hair is like a sponge, soaking up all the water lol.
As for a protective style (for the remaining time in my 3 month time period) I think I'm just going to wear wigs. At first I was a little embarrassed to admit that I wear them (especially NOW on my PUBLIC BLOG). Let's hope I don't get any slander for this post lol. It's no fun being made fun of for wearing a wig or having people question my health like I'm sick & losing my hair! Lol wigs aren't just made for bald people, they are a fun way for females (some males too) to change up their hairstyle without commitment! I love the idea of that. I am constantly changing my hair depending on my mood so I personally think wigs are great alternative for me until my hair grows to my desirable length. I really love this curly fro look on me, I've gotten tons of compliments on my hair so I think this may be a win-win situation for me.
I'll be keeping you guys posted at the end of my 3 months of protective styling challenge! Hopefully between now & the end of February (my birthday!) my hair will have grown another 1/2 inch! Tata for now. Thanks for reading & enjoy the rest of your evening.

XOXO,
Simone

  1. I love your hair! And trust me' I know how you feel. When my hair is straight, it's down my back past my bra and when I wash and let it air dry, it doesn't pass my neck. Lol!! So yes, it is real.

  3. I'm hoping to grow 1/2inch a month too but via wearing a weave as a protective style and taking care of my leave out. I cant seem to retain length though... we shall see.

Your wig looks SUPER real. It's amazing. I talk about my weave and 3/4th wig on my blog all the time, nothing to be ashamed of!

  7. You can rock any hairstyle and be gorgeous! And your wig looks fab. I recently did the BC and turned my sew in into a U part wig with a lace closure, and no one can tell the difference. Andddd I need product recommendations for this twa, suggestions?

    1. Aww thank you Dara! I think some good products for your TWA would be to start out with a great conditioner to co-wash that could also be used a leave in (I use Tresemme naturals) & a good gel or mousse to use if you want defined curls (I think the best gel is ECO Styler Olive Oil Gel). If you find that these work for you or others let me know! I'd love to hear how you style your TWA

  8. girl...i have long natural hair and i rock a wig too! LoL
sometimes it is a fun way to dress up your outfits...or i just did not have time to wash/style my hair...so i just toss on a wig! i was def scared and ashamed at first...but once i started wearing them i was mad that i did not start wearing them sooner! You just have to find the RIGHT wigs that fit you face and your style. Most people do not realize it is a wig (the only people that can tell are my family and close friends) so no shame girl! rock those wigs!! LoL
